Ok, 414 is it... But that still a lot (a lot!) of Night Goblins.

I was painting the Mangler Squig model to be model number 415 in the army. And I really, really hated it. I was not enjoying painting it, I was doing quite a poor job, and was quite miserable while doing so.

I started to think what I was painting all these Night goblins for. I don't really play Warhammer Fantasy. So why spend time painting models that I hate?

When that came to me, I decided to stop painting the Mangler Squig. Although I own two of them, I cannot ever see myself finishing the one that I have started, or painting the second one at all. Yes, they have good on table stats, but...

So I present to you my 61% completed Night Goblin horde. No, everything below is fully painted. I still have 39% of the army either assembled and not started or still on sprue waiting to be started.

And some photos of the Boss group of the army. Skarsnick and 2 Big Bosses. And 5 Shaman.

So what does this actually contain?

100 Night Goblin Spears
2 x 50 Night Goblin Spears
50 Night Goblins Hand Weapons
5 x 20 Night Goblin Archers
10 Squig Hoppers
25 Squig Herders (15 Squigs, 10 Herders)
6 Stone Trolls
14 Night Goblin fanatics
Skarsnick
2 Big Bosses
1 Squig Hopper Big Boss
5 Night Goblin Shaman

Which leaves me with 262 models to go. But maybe 268, depending on if I decide to add in another 6 Stone trolls or not to give me a horde of them. Go Horde or Go Home I guess. :)

Cheers.

414... That is a reasonably large number.

So I finished the next 8 Night Goblins and started to undercoat the next large model that will bring me to 415.

So the 8 models consisted of 3 fanatics for the orange units, 3 gobs to add to the first unit of squig herders as stand in herders, 1 night goblin to bring the blue unit up to a true 50, and my 5th shaman.

So my spreadsheet tells me that I am now over 3000 points of night goblins. Yikes. That is without magic weapons (except for those that Skarsnick comes with base) and with all Shaman counting as level one.

The next model is my first foray into the world of finecast. So far, not liking it a whole heap. The model seems very bouncy for its large nature and minimal points of contact and is not holding the paint that well even after I washed it. I will continue on though and see how it all looks when it is done.

I have also assembled these, which is the start of my Empire of the Dead group. A gaslight Victoriana era game? So what did I choose? A whole bunch of women with swords and pole-arms.

Yikes the Studio McVey figures which are the resin ones in the above pic are very finely cast.

Until next time.

400 Night goblins and 6 Trolls

Yikes. I was expecting a large number by my army spreadsheet says that I have now painted 406 models for my Orc and Goblin army. Which is 59% of the army. Yikes

I finished off the command group and other models for this unit, which is another unit of 20 night goblins done.

Full army pics so far when I get the next 9 models done.

Looks like I have been distracted from Sedition wars and other miniatures for the time being. Soon though I really should get started on my Empire of the Dead group.

So how are we looking on my stats for the year so far:

Models purchased: 1 (from a kickstarter level)

Models painted: 24.

Not too shabby. But still a long way to go.

10 Night Goblins done

Well, the post title pretty much sums this one up. The first 10 of the unit of 20 Night Goblins in the Orange group is done.

Next up, the other 10 in this unit. I am off to undercoat them now and should make a start on them tomorrow evening.

Running Totals:
Painted: 14
Purchased: 0

Cheers. :)

Painting - 4 done now.

Well, it has taken me a while, but I have finished 4 Vanguard from Sedition Wars.

I am pretty happy with them. So only one more to go and I will have enough painted to play the first mission.

However between these guys and my Tyranids I am a little sick of white again, so after I finished the 4th guy today, I have started on some goblins once more.

So now to paint these guys for a while. And hopefully get them finished in a reasonable amount of time so I can get back to the Sedition Wars miniatures once again.

But in keeping to my Gaming Resolutions, how am I looking so far.

Miniatures painted: 4
Miniatures purchased: 0

And I have managed to play more games so far, though most have been board and card games so far.

And kickstarter? Well I keep looking and have stayed strong in the face of several very tempting miniature kickstarters. so 1/6th of the way through the year and it is all looking good for me. Can I maintain this? Hopefully.

First Sedition Wars Miniature.

Well, it has been quite a month. So far I have managed to either play a game (or two) or do some painting each week. So that is looking good for my resolution so far.

Although, I have not yet returned to painting my Tyranids. Instead, many copies of Sedition Wars arrived. And while waiting for my fully painted set to arrive, I have been distracted by the magnificant miniatures in the box.

So to try out the colour scheme for the models, I have had a go at a Vanguard Samaritan.

I followed the painting guide by one of the Studio McVey forum members here

I think that it looks pretty good. So only another 5 or so models to go and I will have enough to play the first mission. Well, except for the Strain. I will have to see about those as although the sculpts and models are excellent, I am not looking forward to having a go at painting them as much as I am the Vanguard.

Next update will be my tales from Arcanacon 2013, where I managed to pull off my worst tournament performance ever, but had a great time doing so.

Cheers.

Happy New Year!

Well, another year is upon us.

My recent slackness in posting was due to both a lack of interest in painting, plus my continuing pokemon addiction as well as a trip away to experience a white Christmas.

The trip was good. Saw lots of snow, even on Christmas Day which was really cool.

So looking back at the last year, although I didn't get all that much done really, I am still happy with my progress. Tyranids started, a unit of goblins finished, Dwarf Kings Hold series started to be painted. A few other random bits and pieces as well.

So, what are my gaming resolutions for this year?

1. Kickstarter - Don't back so much. I backed 34 items on kickstarter last year, and have only had full delivery of 2 items. 7 have had partial deliveries. So I have items from 9. Leaving 25 of them in the stage of non-delivery. Now, that is not fully fair, as 1 is still not finished yet, and a few have delivery dates for this year. But still, it is a fair amount of my gaming cash that I could have used to purchase items in hand.
2013 resolution: Think more before backing something on Kickstarter. Is it likely to get a proper release? If so, wait until it does.

2. Paint more. As part of this I am going to set myself realistic goals. Keeping in line with this, my 2013 resolution of projects will be as a start to:
  • Finish the 500 points of Tyranids - 8 models to go;
  • Finish painting the first set of Dwarf King Hold - 10 skeletons and a dwarven mastiff to go
So not a huge list to start with, but one that I hope will be met and then the next project can be added. What will that be? I am not sure yet but hopefully it will strike me as I get closer to finishing the above.

3. Purchase less. I am going to attempt to paint a model for each one that I purchase. So before anything new is purchased I must paint an equivalent number of models that I currently already own. This will not cut into my backlog, but will hopefully mean it at least does not grow.

4. Game more. I have a regular Saturday "gaming" day. Towards the end of last year, this was more of me going to a friends place and crunkling on his couch. That could have just been end of year fatigue setting in, but I am going to play at least one game a week, be it a board game, miniature game or the like. This will be in addition to any computer games that I play.

So those are some broad and nebulous goals. Will I meet them? Hopefully. What ever happens, fun will be had, paint will be splattered and possibly some excuses will fly. :)

On the bright side, I have already started to implement plan "Finish the Tyranids" and have put some paint on the next 4 Genestealers. Pics to be come in the next update.

Have a safe and successful new year!

Cheers.
